Week 1 of Surf School June 14th - 18th 2010

WOW!! What a great week in Daytona Beach Shores history! Pure Life Surf School's summer surf camp kicked off Monday June 14th, 2010. All of our campers were ripping! We had such an eventful week, including the recovery of the surf school's enclosed trailer; which was stolen the week before.

Chad Doyle of Ponce Inlet heard through the grape vine that our trailer was stolen by thieves a week ago in the quite little town of Wilbur By The Sea. The trailer ended up in a parking lot in the complex of which Peninsula Holding Co. of South Daytona is a part of. Chad Doyle, part owner of Peninsula Holding Co., investigated the trailer and noticed some markings that were characteristics of our trailer. He then notified me, L.J Kuzmovich, and the South Daytona Police Department. I got the call on Thursday at 11:00am during camp. The happiest moment I have felt in a long while!! It was our trailer!! We may have a small community, but we are not quite when "evil doers" are on the prowl. Word of mouth and a concerned community helped retrieve our trailer with all of our surfing equipment!!! Whaaa Hoooo! Thank you Chad Doyle of Peninsula Holding Co.

The waves were super fun in the beginning of the week! Paul Bruto of Port Orange was showing kids how to get barreled, Monday! Tuesday the water went from warm to freezing; which was nice because the temperature went from cool to blazing hot! Wednesday was canoe toe-in day. Some of the kids were getting toed behind the canoe, holding on to a wake board rope, getting pulled on their surfboards. So much FUN!!

And then there was Thursday! Bernie Crouch of Maddog Surf Shop, local legend and incredible surf board shaper taught the kids how to Stand-Up Paddle Surf. He taught me how to "SUP" Stand-Up Paddle like a pro! A very humbling experience for all the kids and the instructors. Thank you Bernie!! Friday we went to Ponce and found out that there was no waves:( However!!!! The water was crystal clear. The water looked like we were in Fiji! The kids had a blast! We then headed to the Shores Festhaus to enjoy their amazing and absolutely delicious food. After that it was back to Frank Rendon Park for a beach football game!

Pure Life Surf Instructor Maria is New Team Rider for Sanuk

Congratulations to Pure Life Surf School's Daytona Beach surf instructor Maria Kuzmovich who was recently signed by Sanuk, an international surfing brand, as a team rider. Maria's surfing talent and style have earned her a new sponsor - and Pure Life Surf School is happy to see her as the new Sanuk team rider. Congrats Maria.

May 22nd Surf School Orientation

Summer Surf School is around the corner. We will have early sign-up and an orientation on May 22nd, 2010 10am - 12pm. We will be grilling up hot dogs and hamburgers for everyone. My name is Hannah.

I'm 16 years old and a student at Spruce Creek High School I was born and raised in South Daytona, FL although you could say Ponce Inlet is my second home. I have grown up loving my ocean and beaches. I feel it is very important for every one to have an understanding of the ocean's power and beauty. I have taught at the Gidget Surf Camp in Cocoa Beach as well as the Surf Rider Foundation's Eco Clinic. I have been competing in the E.S.A. North Central Florida district for over 5 years. I have a love for the ocean that I wish to share with others.

My name is Ron and I am 25 years old. I was born and raised in Dunedin, Florida. I spent my life growing up fishing everyday on the Gulf Coast. I graduated Culinary School when I was 20 years old. I have been a cook since I was 14 years old. Surfing has completely changed my life and has enabled me to make life long connections with great friends and of course the ocean. I continue to travel and experience new and amazing cultures, while constantly improving my surfing abilities. I have lived in Costa Rica for the past three winter and spring seasons working and surfing. I am honored to work for Pure Life Surf School. We don't just teach you how to surf, We teach you how to be a GOOD surfer!

My name is Keoni and for the last twenty years I have been surfing and living my life.

From Mexico , Nicaragua , Puerto rico , California , Costa Rica , New Zealand , Australia, Indonesia and many more places yet to visit. The Ocean is the greatest of teachers and has helped mold me into a man I am today. A man that loves the ocean more than anything and that enjoys the friends we meet along the way. I grew up here in Ponce Inlet, my home sweet home, and through the many fun nuggets I have rode they have installed in me the deep passion for surfing and the ocean that I will always hold deep in my soul. Hanging loose and staying wet, life is just fine for me.

Hi, I'm Maria Kuzmovich and I’m 24 years old. I have lived in Daytona Beach, FL my whole life. I really love it here. I have been surfing for about 7 years now and it has definitely made me who I am today. The ocean is truly the most beautiful place to be, in my opinion. Because of surfing I have been able to travel to different countries, meet amazing people, and really find myself. I feel at home when I am in the ocean, it is a really religious place for me. I started traveling in 2005 and I am addicted! I love traveling and plan on doing a lot more of it in the future. I enjoy the simple things in life like family, friends, good conversation, and a good laugh. I am a very creative person who absolutely loves painting, writing, poetry, listening to music, and doing anything that I can put my ideas into.

LJ Kuzmovich is the founder and main surf instructor for Pure Life Surf School

Hello, my name is LJ Kuzmovich and I’m 26 years old. I have lived in Daytona off and on my whole life. My partners and I are living a mutual dream, sharing the gift of surfing. I have been surfing for over a decade, and it has molded my life. The best decision that I have ever made in my life was to start surfing. Surfing has taken me all over the world, to places that I can hardly pronounce, experiences and feelings I will never forget, learning and transcending through multiple language and cultural differences that have shaped me as an individual and changed my life. I graduated the University of Central Florida in 2008. I majored in business administration with a minor in legal studies. Now I get to teach kids to surf everyday and love it. I have beautiful daughter Mya Jade Kuzmovich, which will be in camp about 4 years from now. Stay tuned
